Embodied cognition in yoga psychology
By Sandeep Joshi - Jul 15, 2011
The field of psychology is still evolving. As human consciousness becomes aware of deeper dimensions, there will be a natural urge to shift existing paradigms to accommodate the emerging experiences. These experiences are not entirely new, but have so far been either ignored or explained away by modern psychology. However, man cannot be led into believing that he is nothing more than a bundle of nerves and a basket of chemicals. It contradicts his intuitive understanding of himself. No wonder psychology today is trying to break fresh grounds. However, its one challenge is to integrate its findings with the already existing body of knowledge derived from neurosciences. In this article, the author strives to see how far and to what extent the shifts in the field of cognitive psychology agree and are aligned with the insights and intuitions provided by Sri Aurobindo and the Mother.

By Soumitra Basu - Oct 15, 2021
In a world of sophisticated gadgetry, the art of listening suffers a great casualty. Listening is a faculty bestowed by Nature and it is a technique that gets perfected in the matrix of interpersonal relationships. Yet, in a world satiated with hedonistic pleasure and the workaholism of corporate culture, who does justice to the art of listening? It would be tragic to squander away a great gift of nature that holds unfulfilled potentialities. Even the great wisdom came down to the listening Self which were articulated by prophets like Moses and expressed as mantras by the great Upaniṣadic seers.

Archetypal Psychology
By Lopa Mukherjee - Jan 15, 2020
Archetypal Psychology is a field of psychology that was born in the early 1970s, formulated by the psychologist, James Hillman. It treats the soul, or the innermost haloed entity in a person, as the primary object of attention. This new psychology is in contrast to older psycho-analytical methods where the subconscious is treated as the primary source of information. In Archetypal Psychology, fantasising, mythologizing, embodying archetypes, weaving soul-stories, personifying, sensing the aliveness of everything animate and inanimate are ways of healing oneself. Archetypal Psychology considers psychological pathologies as messages coming from the soul that we need to pour into and not get rid of, with superficial cures. This article introduces Archetypal Psychology and gives a glimpse of its refreshing worldview.
