The Art of Suffering Well

By Monica Gulati - Oct 15, 2022

At the present stage of human evolution, somehow the way we are, we do suffer, before we can transcend the suffering and let go of the need for suffering in order to grow and expand in our consciousness. While the suffering is manifesting itself, I have a choice. While the ground beneath me is ripped apart from as I had known it, I have a choice. I have a choice to use the suffering well, or to let it push me into plunges of darkness with no sight of light. I have a choice to let go of my stubbornness to be obsessed by the limited sense of self, or to connect deeply with my suffering, to embrace it, and hence embrace the suffering of the whole of existence. What I choose, decides what transpires from the raw material of the seeming suffering.

Thoughts, Feelings, Perceptions — Wave or Particle?

By Monica Gulati - Jul 15, 2022

Some of us may be aware of the wave-particle duality through quantum physics. A sub-atomic particle’s behaviour is rather unpredictable. It can at times behave like a wave, less solid, while at times it can behave like a particle, hence a bit more solid. How it will behave, one cannot predict. Researchers have so far studied that whether it will behave like a particle or wave is influenced very much by who’s looking at them, who’s observing. The same appears quite true at the level of our thoughts, feelings, emotions, sense-perceptions. Whether they appear heavy, sole reality, or solid, depends on who’s looking? If the egoistic sense of self, the separate self is looking, it looks at them as – my life, my respect, my story, my roles. If we take a stance knowingly at a deeper level of consciousness, knowing ourselves as consciousness and looking at these surface movements, they appear more surreal, like a dream, fleeting, ever transient, and more like a wave passing by. The article explores implications of this fact for our human journey.

Suffering — the postman

By Monica Gulati - Jul 15, 2021

The Creator shines through each aspect of his creation. As this is the case, then each and every darkness and challenge must hide a divine Truth within. Let us explore the darkness of suffering and see what the hidden message is, veiled behind the dark and unpleasant façade. Can we allow, in faith, to go intimately close to suffering and see its roots, origins, its reason for manifestation, for being there? Let us engage in each experience of life as an exploration, to dig deeper, further, on and on. For only this progression, this adventure, this exploration is a never- ending joy.

Attachment to Love — Darkness to Light

By Monica Gulati - Jul 15, 2021

As human beings, our journey is from attachment to non-attachment, or from suffering to bliss. We all think about and have imaginations about unconditional pure love. But as human beings it is mostly not our reality. Our love is mixed with a lot of physical/emotional wants, insecurities, dependencies, with mental opinions and rigidities. Owing to this mixture present in us, we suffer and struggle; we get entangled, and have conflicts and dramas in our relationships. Is it possible for us to use attachment/suffering and entanglement as raw material on this path of sadhana? Is it possible to use attachment as raw material to move towards love? This article explores this possibility in the context of day-to-day human life.
