The reaction to stress
By Soumitra Basu - Jul 15, 2010
This means that whatever may be the source of the threat, most of us continue to physically and emotionally react to the stressors of modern life in the same way that we did as inhabitants of the wild – a habitual response which we now find difficult to unlearn. If this be true, then, obviously, in the area of stress reaction, the remarkable elevation in biological status is yet to be satisfactorily accompanied by a progressive elevation in Consciousness.

Metaphysics and health – evolution of the concept of Integral Health
By Soumitra Basu - Jul 15, 2010
Should metaphysics be related to health? It is justified to do so. Our world-view progresses from two directions. We can start from the ground reality, gathering scattered evidence, correlating multiple variables and methodically progressing, brick by brick, until a tsunami of fresh ideas usurps the logic construct to rebuild a new foundation. The passage is not smooth but that is how deductive knowledge progresses through trials and errors, constructing and deconstructing hypotheses based on mutable laws governing a flux of probabilities and possibilities.

The subliminal — a new dimension of personality
By Soumitra Basu - Jul 15, 2009
Besides the ‘unconscious’ of psychoanalysis, Sri Aurobindo describes two planes of consciousness — the superconscient and the subliminal. The subliminal self is the inner being that stands behind the surface personality and is the meeting ground of the universal and the individual. The subliminal itself is supported by the soul-principle. Though the surface being of the average individual is largely influenced by the subconscient, it is also influenced to a significant extent by the subliminal.

Linking the Outer Being and the Inner Being
By Soumitra Basu - Jan 15, 2025
The pursuit of personal growth requires a thorough understanding of the planes and parts of the consciousness. Ordinarily, the term, ’personality’ as used in contemporary Western psychology, corresponds to what is known as the outer being in yoga psychology. Sri Aurobindo describes a vaster inner being or subliminal personality behind the outer being, which is in continuum with the universal consciousness. It is not the soul but intermediary between the soul-principle (also known as the inmost being and a projection of the central being poised beyond and above the manifestation).
