Death means much more than the cessation of bodily life. It raises several issues within the mind of the person who faces it. It challenges our established world-view and touches upon some deeply painful knots within us. This part has been written mainly with a view to the common questions that those in the grips of a difficult, 'incurable', terminal illness often ask. The questions have been culled from the actual reaction from real people. They may not cover all issues but are meant to touch upon some of the main issues that spring up in our encounter with death.

This article deals with the individual’s role in our present times of great upheaval associated with the pressure for a collective change. It discusses the purpose of this change and the need to trust the future in the light of Sri Aurobindo. According to the author, the way lies neither in blind conservatism nor in fashionable modernity. We need to look beyond both and trust the Time-Spirit and act with a wide and plastic consciousness that looks at events and people and circumstances in their totality.

Einstein failed to validate his own 'unified field theory' with a single mathematical equation that would describe the movements of both planets and atoms, but the Mother's spiritual experience validated the same theory in terms of consciousness. Her description of experiencing a great undulating wave of consciousness, expanding and contracting in a vast, calm and harmonious rhythm, opens the possibility of a poise of consciousness where one is capable of 'being' at every point in the universe. Science today needs a paradigm shift to a poise centred in consciousness.
